About Johanna Grüssner Band

Johanna Grüssner's debut recording from 1995 features an ensemble of fellow students, with professor Casey Scheuerell appearing as a guest artist. The album combines Scandinavian troubadour repertoire with standard jazz fair. While most of the songs were initially arranged by pianist Mika Pohjola, all the musicians contribute to an interplay that extends beyond the written arrangements.

Grüssner is already an assured producer and interpreter of her repertoire here. On her subsequent recordings, beginning in 1998, her voice takes on greater maturity and develops further as her artistic expression evolves remarkably.
